About Dunham Physio

From Physio Barn to Dunham Physio: Local, Trusted, and Patient Focused

Dunham Physio was founded by Steph, an HCPC-registered and MSc-qualified advanced musculoskeletal (MSK) practitioner with over 20 years of experience helping patients reduce pain, improve movement, and regain confidence in their bodies.

After many successful years as Physio Barn, Steph decided it was time for a rebrand. While the name served the practice well, “Physio Barn” didn’t always reflect the professional, evidence-based care she provides. Dunham Physio offers a fresh identity that feels more connected to her roots, her expertise, and the high clinical standard of the service.

Our Roots at Red House Farm

Steph founded Physio Barn in 2014 when a small corner of her family’s National Trust tenant farm — Red House Farm in Dunham Massey — became available. Having grown up on the farm, and with her youngest brother and his family now the current tenants, the location is deeply tied to her personal history.

What began as one small consultation room has steadily grown into larger, purpose-built clinical spaces, transformed from former egg-grading and storage barns into modern treatment rooms designed for comfort, privacy, and excellent clinical care.

The practice has always grown mainly through personal recommendation and word-of-mouth, something Steph is incredibly proud of.

Professional Journey & Expertise

Steph graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and completed her MSc in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2017. Her research was published in 2020 in the National Library of Medicine (Read More Here).

Alongside running Dunham Physio, Steph works within the NHS as both an Advanced Musculoskeletal Practitioner for Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust and a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) for Rainford Health Centre. This blend of NHS and private practice experience ensures the care she provides is evidence-based, professional, and patient-centred.

A Patient First Approach

Steph believes in empowering every patient to understand their condition, take control of their recovery, and regain confidence in their body. Whether it’s joint pain, muscle pain, nerve pain, or general mobility issues, Steph’s goal is to identify the root cause and guide patients toward long term improvement - not just symptom relief.

The philosophy is simple: “Everybody is different, and every body is different.”

That means each patient receives an individualised assessment and tailored plan - combining education, manual therapy, and targeted exercise to achieve sustainable results.
